Gut Check with the GI Map
In functional medicine, all health begins in the gut and it is incredibly important to understand how the gut is functioning when looking at your health overall. Overwhelmingly, research indicates that gut health impacts overall health. The gut microbiome, in particular, plays a critical role in mediating the effects of diet and other factors on health, including digestive, immune, metabolic and neuroendocrine functions. Assessing GI health with the proper tools can help practitioners get to the root cause of chronic illness.
Almost every patient can benefit from a GI-MAP gut health assessment. Some patients are looking to achieve optimal health, while other patients have been chronically ill and frustrated without a diagnosis for years.
Some conditions that warrant testing are:
- Autoimmune diseases
- IBS/IBD
- Digestive complaints, diarrhea or constipation
- Brain fog
- Skin problems, like acne and psoriasis
- Mood disorders, depression, and anxiety
- Diabetes and weight loss issues

DUTCH Complete Hormone and DUTCH Cycle Mapping Hormone
Hormones are a keystone of health in both women and men alike!Women have symptoms related to:
- Menopause
- Weight gain
- Fatigue
- Low libido
- Premenstrual symptoms (PMS)
- Aches and pain
- Mood swings, or depression,
These symptoms can lead to more serious problems if misdiagnosed. Identifying the root cause of chronic health issues is certainly correctable, but only if properly identified.
Over time, men experience a gradual loss of hormones produced in the gonads and adrenal glands. Testosterone and DHEA levels fall and estrogen levels tend to rise. Male menopause, or what doctors call ‘andropause,’ can create symptoms of
- Weight gain
- Lower sex drive
- Depression
- Hair loss
- Sleeping troubles
- Fatigue
- Aches and pains
- Increased prostate cancer risk.
Many men feel this is part of getting older and do not know there is treatment to help them maintain a healthy lifestyle.
The DUTCH Test® was created to provide insight into many of these concerns, working to deliver the most complete assessment of sex and adrenal hormones, along with their metabolites, in one easy to administer test.
The dried urine collection process is great for baseline measurements of women with hormonal imbalances and for Hormone Replacement Therapy (HRT) monitoring.

The DUTCH Cycle Mapping™ PLUS not only maps estrogen and progesterone through the monthly menstrual cycle but also adds the comprehensiveness of all the hormone metabolites along with the cortisol awakening
response (CAR).
Hormonal balance is key. Fluctuating levels of estradiol and progesterone play a major role in a woman’s overall health. This panel is designed for cycling women who struggle with ongoing symptoms such as monthly migraines, fertility issues, or PCOS. The addition of the cortisol awakening response (CAR), a transient, immediate rise in cortisol upon awakening (distinct from the diurnal rhythm), provides a fuller assessment of hormone fluctuations, baseline stress response, and reflects a patient’s ability to cope with anticipated challenges. CAR also shows a patient’s perception of control around chronic stress, providing insight into HPA resiliency.
The DUTCH Cycle Mapping is recommended:
- Women struggling with infertility
•Women with cycling hormones and no menses
• Partial hysterectomy (ovaries intact but no uterus)
• Ablations
• Mirena IUD (no actual menstrual bleeding due to IUD but still has hormonal symptoms)
• Women with irregular cycles
• PCOS
• If the luteal phase shifts from month-to-month
• Not sure when to test due to long or short cycles
• Women whose hormonal symptoms tend to fluctuate throughout the cycle
• PMS, mid-cycle spotting, migraines, etc.

Food Sensitivity Testing, Fluid IQ
What does a food sensitivity look like?
- Sinus congestion
- Bronchitis
- Fatigue
- Difficulty concentrating or focusing
- Headaches or migraines
- Joint pain
- Skin irritations, including eczema
- Stomach discomfort and/or acid reflux
- Bloating
- Diarrhea or constipation
- Unexplained weight control issues
- Water retention
The immune system can respond to different foods you eat. It is important to understand a food ALLERGY and food SENSATITIVITY. They are two different ways the body’s immune system responds to food. With an allergy your body responds with IgE mediated immune response, which is the more severe and potentially life-threatening reaction most people think of when they think “food reaction”. This included anaphylaxis where it is difficult to breath, your heart rate and blood pressure can be affected. Sometimes is less severe like hives. In either case the reaction happens within minutes of consuming the food.
However you can have a food sensitivity where your immune system reacts to food but with a IgG mediated immune response. Unlike the allergy a sensitivity takes up 72 hours to show symptoms. In the meantime you can have eaten several foods, so it gets harder to following the trail of bread crumbs…pun intended.

Histamine and Diamine Oxidase (DAO), Fluid IQ
Histamine is involved in many inflammatory and allergic processes, including both immediate and delayed hypersensitivity reactions. Histamine excess can be triggered by its release in the body as a result of a variety of environmental triggers, from the ingestion of foods with high histamine content, a deficiency in DAO, or both. An impaired histamine degradation, based on reduced DAO activity and the resulting histamine excess, may cause numerous symptoms mimicking an allergic reaction.
High levels of histamine:
- Runny nose, sneezing, congestion
- Itching, hives, skin flushing
- Dizziness or vertigo
- Headache, migraine
- Nausea, vomiting
- Intestinal cramps, gas
- Diarrhea
- Abnormal menstrual cycle
- Shortness of breath
- Abnormal heart rate
- High blood pressure
- Severe allergic reactions (anaphylaxis)
Low levels of DAO:
- Skin rash and pruritus (itching), urticaria (hives), eczema, psoriasis
- Nasal congestion, asthma
- Headache, migraine
- Chronic fatigue
- Anxiety, depression
- Inflammation, irritable bowel syndrome (IBS)
- Estrogen dominance, dysmenorrhea, Premenstrual Syndrome (PMS)
- Muscular pain, fibromyalgia
- Rheumatoid arthritis
- Hypertension, hypotension, arrhythmia,

Nutritional Markers (Organic Acid Testing), Genova Diagnostics
Organic acids are metabolic intermediates that are produced in pathways of central energy production, detoxification, neurotransmitter breakdown, or intestinal microbial activity. Marked accumulation of specific organic acids detected in urine often signals a metabolic inhibition or block. The metabolic block may be due to a nutrient deficiency, an inherited enzyme deficit, toxic build-up or drug effect. Several of the biomarkers are markers of intestinal bacterial or yeast overgrowth.
The Organix® Comprehensive nutritional test profile provides vital patient information from a single urine specimen. This organic acids nutritional test is valuable for determining:
- Functional vitamin and mineral status
- Amino acid insufficiencies like carnitine and NAC
- Oxidative damage and antioxidant need
- Phase I & Phase II detoxification capacity
- Functional B-complex vitamin need
- Neurotransmitter metabolites
- Mitochondrial energy production
- Methylation sufficiency
- Lipoic acid and CoQ10 status
- Markers for bacterial and yeast overgrowth
The Organix® Comprehensive nutritional test is ideal for patients who may suffer from:
- Weight issues
- Sleep abnormalities
- Depression
- Chemical Sensitivities
